The Proper Penguin storybook and live author reading at your child's school

Ages 2-6

The Proper Penguin – The Story of B Polite was developed to help children and their parents see civility in action.

B Polite is a penguin that lives at the South Pole. The penguins that live there get their name from the pole-lights or the “Polites.” B is a nick name for Bentley. The story is a day in the life of B Polite, a penguin that lives in a cold place that is warm and friendly due to a kind way of life. It is a sweet story of the benefits of building a foundation of manners early in life.

The story is written so that the children may connect with B Polite and see that kind actions are a desirable way to a happy life.

The journey of civility begins at a very young age and the concept of B Polite was developed to help make the trip fun! B Polite is not so much about the rules, but rather, about respecting oneself first, enabling respect for others, i.e., the circle of life in the life cycle of civility.

Your Manners Matter - National Civility Program - Ages 7-10

South Carolina’s leading protocol and etiquette school and global award winner, The Charleston School of Protocol and Etiquette, Inc., has developed a unique 18-week manners program curriculum that will teach elementary school age children topics such as introductions, handshaking, table manners and thank you notes to name a few.

The curriculum provides interactive lessons and tools needed to facilitate teaching. Manners are such an important part of how a child learns to develop self-respect, character, relationships and leadership abilities. This curriculum will also help children become more self-confident, courteous, and give them the opportunity to master these important life skills. Manners are not just polite actions. They are a reflection of our attitudes. Therefore, when you teach a child manners, you are teaching an attitude, not an action. As a well known saying states, “The manners of today will be the morals of tomorrow.” DOWNLOAD FLYER HERE

The Civil Savvy Society - Ages 10-13

The Charleston School of Protocol and Etiquette, Inc., and Summerville Cotillion has developed the Civil Savvy Society Program that will help teach school age children confidence.

Confidence as defined by Webster’s Dictionary is “Faith or Belief that you are acting in a right, proper and effective manner” (Webster’s 1b).  From this definition, we understand that the basis of confidence lies in manners and etiquette. Manners are the treasure map!

Manners are not just polite actions. They are a reflection of our attitudes. Therefore, when you teach a child manners, you are teaching an attitude, not an action.  You are not teaching them what to do. You are teaching them how to be. It is much bigger!

Manners are such an important part of how a child learns to develop self-respect, character, their identity and relationships.

As a well known saying states, “The manners of today will be the morals of tomorrow.”

Topics of discussion include mindfulness,  self-confidence, attitude, respecting yourself and more. An image and etiquette lesson each week covers subjects such as what manners really are, hello and good bye, proper introductions, using proper titles, compliments, deference, handshaking, posture, setting the table, table manners, cell phone etiquette, thank you notes and much more

Four of the sessions will include ballroom dancing. This part of the program is taught by Debbie Housand, former owner of Arthur Murray Dance Studios.
