Welcome to the Charleston School of Protocol and Etiquette

We change lives based on principle, we monitor behavior based on rules

The goal of this blog is provide thoughts and tips for people to achieve excellent professional presence on their journey of success. We know your time is valuable, so let’s start with the why.

Research conducted by Harvard University, Carnegie Foundation, and Stanford Research institute states:

Success in business today is attributed:
15% technical knowledge and 85% interpersonal skills.

These are felt to be credible institutions and if this is true, then the question becomes, how much time have we invested in these skills?  We find that most people invest a considerable amount of time in understanding the technical aspects of doing business and very little time in the social, soft or interpersonal skills, or what I term “Polish.”

So why is polish at the heart of your success in business? Because the heart of polish is based on confidence. The definition of confidence is as stated in Webster’s dictionary is:

Faith or belief that you are acting in a right, proper and effective manner.

Since confidence is based on knowing the right and proper manner, being able to handle yourself confidently in all situations becomes a lifestyle.  My goal in this blog is to provide value by helping you to understand the principles behind what is considered professional success and why they are important. Once we understand the why, then we can define the how and what in a rapidly changing world with style and confidence.

Next week I will discuss the competitive advantage of the lost art of thank you notes and some tips on helping you to write them.

We look forward to helping you on your  journey of success!
