The person we become is the person we chose to be.
Ralph Waldo Emerson
As you are reading this blog, you are giving time that you will not get back…so my question is, are you spending time or are you investing time?
Each of us is given the same amount of time each week, 168 hours. However, why is it that some people seem to accomplish more than others? Maybe it is the difference between spending time versus investing time.
Sometimes we may forget that our greatest asset does not come from a job, a niche in the market, or a financial investment …our greatest asset is the ability to grow who we are …and if we are too busy to do that….then in 2015, as fast as we are moving…. we may be standing still…or even falling behind.
This is important because before you can grow professionally, you must grow personally.
It is interesting when I hear, “I have been doing things this way for a long time”….just because something is working, may not mean that it is the only way or even the best way. Or “I have 20 years experience,” but what I find is they have 20 years of the same one year of experience…they stopped growing years ago.
In some cases have we lost the skill of critical thinking, or the ability to question ourselves or our circumstances? Please know
with new growth comes new thinking.
When we ask people are you growing…. and if you are…how? They usually respond with something technical like on the job training or some academic course. These are important, but I suggest as talked about in my first blog, several studies reflected that your social skills, soft skills, or what I term polish, will be the greatest contribution to your personal and professional success. Once again, if that is true, then how much time have we invested in learning these skills?
There is a tremendous amount of change taking place in the world today, occurring at a rapid pace. However remember,
with great change, comes great opportunity
In this faster-than-a-speeding-bullet business climate it is easy to be busy. It takes a concerted effort to take the time to stop and think about how we are investing our time to grow who we are. Now is the time, this is the place and you are the one. So make the best investment you can ever make, invest in yourself.
